Which is the correct Canon driver for your printer?
For HP Printers
• The printer does not recognise your cartridge
» Possible causes:
On the back of the cartridge you can find the contact plate. If these are contaminated, it is possible that the printer may not recognise the cartridge.
Solution: Clean the contacts with a damp cloth and try again. Also check the corresponding contacts inside your printer. Should these also be dirty, disconnect your printer from the power supply and clean them in the same way.

For black cartridges
• The printer does not print
» Possible causes:
If the print head moves across the page without printing, the print head could be dry.
Solutie: Remove the cartridge from your printer and place the nozzles on to a paper towel soaked in water or TIN nozzle cleaner.
Caution: Ink may leak from the cartridge during this process. To avoid soiling your furniture, we recommend you place the cartridge on a plate or bowl. After a short time you should see a black mark on the towel as the dried ink dissolves. Leave the cartridge on the towel for half an hour after which time you can carefully wipe the print head with a clean towel. Re-install the cartridge and print.

• Lines in your print
» Possible causes:
1. White lines: The nozzles in your print head could be blocked
Solution: See the solution entitled "The printer does not print"
2. Thin irregular lines: The contacts on the cartridge could be dirtyIf the paper feeder is soiled with dust particles or similar, this can cause lines in your print.
Solution: See the solution entitled "The printer does not print"Disconnect the printer from the power supply, check and clean the cartridge carriage in your printer as necessary.

• Ink is leaking
» Possible causes:
1. Occasionally small droplets form on the cartridge: The negative pressure inside the cartridge is inadequate or non-existent.
Solution: Print one or several full black pages. This will create the necessary negative pressure inside the cartridge that prevents leakage.
2. The cartridge is leaking heavily: Inside the cartridge there is a bag that maintains the negative pressure. If this bag is malfunctioning, the cartridge will leak. Cracks in the cartridge could cause similar problems.
Solution: The cartridge is defective. Your TIN dealer will be pleased to replace the cartridge.

For Colour cartridges:
• Poor colour tone:
» Possible causes:
It could be that the print head is worn. If, for example, you get areas that should be green but are light blue, this would indicate that no yellow ink is being printed onto the paper.
Solution: To check if your print head is in good working order, remove the cartridge from your printer and gently wipe the nozzles on a white paper towel. You shoul now be able to see three lines of colour on the towel, cyan (light blue), magenta (light red) and yellow. If you cannot see one or more of these colours, repeat the process with a damp paper towel.
For hobbyist: If after the above process, you still cannot print, stand the cartridge in a bowl containing approximately 5mm of warm water to which you may add 1 drop of washing up liquid for a few minutes. After that, wipe the nozzles with a paper towel and re-install the cartridge in the printer. Perform a test print. If the colours on the towel were green instead of yellow, orange instead of magenta and dark blue instead of cyan, or any other incorrect tone, this would indicate that inks have been mixed. To resolve this problem, print a few full pages of the incorrect colour. If this does not produce the desired results, the cartridge is defective. Your TIN dealer will be pleased to exchange the faulty cartridge.

• The cartridge has been accepted by the printer but does not print
» Possible causes:
: If the printer has accepted the cartridge but will not print, it could be that the nozzle plate has detached itself from the print head. The nozzle plate is the metal plate located on the bottom of the cartridge. If this is the case, the cartridge cannot be repaired and has to be disposed of; your TIN dealer will be pleased to exchange the faulty cartridge.

For Xerox and Lexmark and some Canon Printers
These printer manufacturers use similar technologies as HP and therefore share common problems.
The system allows you to easily change cartridges and print heads.

• Lines in your print out
» Possible causes:
Canon, Xerox and Lexmark printers use bubble jet print heads that are inexpensive but wear quickly. Lines in your print out are usually due to a damaged or soiled print head.
Solution: Using the printer driver, perform the cleaning cycle, if this does not solve the problem, remove the print head as described in the manual and clean it with a damp paper towel. If this does not improve the print quality, the best solution is to buy a new print head. You can of course use the cartridge with your new print head.

• The printer does not print after changing the cartridge
» Possible causes:
These cartridges contain one or several pieces of foam or felt. There is a possibility that this foam or felt has become dislodged which results in the cartridge and print head unable to establish contact. Therefore the ink cannot flow.
Solution: The felt or foam should lie evenly and touch the cartridge ink opening. If it is not even and is set back from the opening, this can be pulled back into position by using tweezers. Having done this, replace the cartridge into the printer.

• Which is the correct Canon driver for your printer?
With the introduction of the S400 and S450 models, Canon has changed the inks for these cartridges. TIN adapted its ink formulation accordingly mid 2001. For this reason, older printer models that used to take ink without the suffix "e" need a different driver. Should you wish to use TIN inks that you bought after September 2001, we recommend you use the new driver. If you mix cartridges you can use the old or new driver. In both instances, colour variations can occur. The new driver can be found on www.canon.co.uk.
